Hillcrest Mennonite Church was founded in 1963 in Grande Prairie, Alberta. It was the result of a mission effort of the Conference of Mennonites in Canada Board of Missions. The membership was 23 in 1963. This work began in 1957 in Lymburn and in 1960 in Grande Prairie. They met in rented facilities. They remained a mission congregation until 1973 and then became an independent congregation. In 1974 the membership was 18. The 1970s were difficult times for the congregation. The congregation emerged in the 1980s as a multi-faceted ministry including a day care and a bookstore. In 1981 the membership was 60. It dipped from there and then rose again to reach 57 in 2000. The leaders of the congregation were: John Friesen (1959-1963), John P. Loewen (1964-1965, 1971-1980), Martin Goerzen (1966), Ken Buller (1967, 1970- ), C.G.
