Historical note

The Rosemary Mennonite Church was founded in 1930 as the Westheimer Mennonite Church with meeting houses in Rosemary and Gem. In Rosemary they met in rented facilities. In 1932 the membership was 111. A Bible School operated in Rosemary from 1930 to 1941 when it was moved to Didsbury. In 1935 they built their own meeting house. The membership was 219 in 1935 and by 1938 it was 300. This building was enlarged in 1947 and 1949. The membership was 364 in 1951. In 1961 a new larger meeting house was built on the same site. In Gem, they met in rented facilities until 1946-1947 when they built their own meeting house. In 1958 the church divided into two individual congregations. The Rosemary group then became the Rosemary Mennonite Church; it was the larger of the two. In 1967 the membership was 217; it remained at around this level, being 214 in 2000. The leaders of the congregation were: Cornelius Harder (1930-1945), Peter P. Dyck (1930-1956), Heinrich Janzen (1930-1958), Jacob Neufeld (1935-1945), Peter W.
