Historical note

First Mennonite Church in Burns Lake, B.C. began services in 1953. These Mennonite families who had moved to the area from the prairies built their own meeting house in 1955. The membership was 33 in 1960. Their meeting house was expanded in 1962 and again in 1984. In 1974 the membership was 104, in 1986 it was 125 and in 2000 it was 128. The leaders of the congregation were: Elmer Dick (1954-1964), John Friesen (1964-1969), Edwin Giesbrecht (1969-1975), Abe Buhler (1975-1981, 2004), Gerald Dyck (1981), Gerald Klassen (1982-1988), Edward Funk (1989-1991), Abraham Buhler (1992-1998),  John Neufeld (2000-2004), Abe Buhler (interim) (2004), Roland Cataford (interim) (2006-2008), David Friesen (interim) (2008).

Scope and content note

This fonds contains bulletins (1968-1999), correspondence (1959-1966), photographs (1960), reports including annual reports (1963-1990), congregational office holders (1969), church dedication service programme (1984), ), congregational meeting minutes (1989-1990), directory (1991), newsletter (1999), and a brief congregational history (1960). The records pertain to the founding and development of the Mennonite congregation in Burns Lake, B.C. They document some of the leaders and participants in the congregation.
