Flatrock Mennonite Church began services in 1954, and formally organized in 1970. The first building was occupied in 1961. Bob Rogers is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through colonization from Saskatchewan in the 1949-1950 Peace River movement. Mennonites from the prairies had moved into the area in the early 1950s. In 1973 the membership was 18. In 1983 the membership was 43 and in 2000 it was 39. The leaders of the congregation were: Bob Rogers (1955-1958), Leonard Chmelyk (1966-1968), Walter Dirks (1969-1981), David Ruby (1983-1988), Philip Martens (1989-1990), Aaron Dirks (1991-1993), Werner Janzen (1994-1996), Craig Herman (1997-1998), Jon Corbett (2000- ). The congregation closed in April 2004.
This fonds contains correspondence (1961-1963), church council meeting minutes (1961) and a constitution (1982) which was still in use in 1989. The records pertain to the founding and early development of the Mennonite congregation in Cecil Lake, B.C.
