First Mennonite Church in Kelowna, B.C. was founded in 1947. In 1948 the membership was 33. They met in rented facilities until bulding their own meeting house in 1955. In 1959 a group wanted to worship entirely in the English language. They left to form a new congregation in 1961. In 1965 the membership was 38. In 2000 it was 57. The leaders of the congregation were: Peter Friesen (1947-1950), Johann Vogt (1947-1961 left then to join the English language group), Jacob Enns (1957-1961 left then to join the English language group), Jacob Janzen (1950-1981), Henry Dyck (1968-1975), Henry Wiebe (1976), Henry Harms (1977-1978), George Franz (1978-1986), Jake Engbrecht (1983), Henry Epp (1984-1986), Lorin Bergen (1987-1992), Frank Pankratz (1993), David Dick (1994-996), Gerald Klassen (1997), John Friesen (1998-1999), John Kroeker (2000-2001), Clare Neufeld (2002- ).
This fonds contains bulletins (1977-1993), correspondence (1985-1991), financial reports (1985-1990), funeral programmes (1985-1989), annual reports (1985-1992), newsletters (1986-1991), church board meeting minutes (1988-1989), congregational meeting minutes (1990-1991), ), Sunday school teachers' meeting minutes (1990), and ), a brief congregational history (1986). The records pertain to the founding and development of the Mennonite congregation in Kelowna, B.C.. They document some of the leaders and participants in the congregation.
