Historical note

The Yarrow United Mennonite Church was founded in 1938 in Yarrow, B.C. A group had been meeting in the area since 1928 in a school building. They built their own meeting house in 1938. In 1939 the membership was 44. In 1949 this building was enlarged. In 1950 the membership was 152. In 1953 the building was renovated. In 1959 they built a new and larger meeting house and the older building was dismantled. In 1960 the membership was 178. The membership was 125 in 1972. In 1980 the membership was 102 and in 2000 it was 92. It was 77 in 2002. The leaders of the congregation were: N. W. Bahnman (1928-1930), Johann Braun (1928-1938), Johann Klassen (1938-1958), J. Adrian (1946-1948), Peter Klassen (1948-1953), Isaac Penner (1946-1972), Martin Unrau (1954-1957), P. W. Dyck (1957-1988), Henry Classen (1956-1994), Henry Epp (1979-1981), Arnold Fast (1983-1985), John Unrau (1986-1988), Dan Rempel (1989-2000), Ron Braun (2001- ).

Scope and content note

This fonds contains bulletins (1965-2001), annual reports (1966-1997), newsletters (1980-1998), correspondence (1987), directories([199-?]-1996), and a 25th anniversary history (1963). The records pertain to the founding and development of the Mennonite congregation in Yarrow, B.C. They document some of the leaders and participants in the congregation.
