Historical note

The Blumenort Mennonite Church at Rosetown, Manitoba (previously known as Rosenort), traces its origins to the Mennonites who came to Manitoba in the 1920s. These immigrants settled in villages on the Mennonite West Reserve filling the vacant farms the Reinländer Mennonite Church members left when they immigrated to Mexico. Under the leadership of Jacob J. Klassen, these Russian Mennonites, began meeting in homes for worship services in September of 1923. In 1926 the Blumenort Mennonite Church, at Reinland, was officially formed and operated as a separate congregation until September 1968 when they joined the Rosenort (Rosetown) congregation. Rev. Johann P. Bueckert was the elder from 1928 until 1954 followed by Paul J. Schaefer 1954-1969. Other ministers who were called to minister in the Blumenort Mennonite Church include: Rev. A.A. Teichroeb 1970-1974, Rev. C.C. Thiessen 1975-1982, and Rev. Peter D. Zacharias 1983-2006.

Scope and content note

This fonds consists of membership and family registers, minutes, reports, bulletins, directories, newsletters, and correspondence which pertains to the beginning and development of the Mennonite congregation at Rosetown (formerly Rosenort), Manitoba. It documents who the leaders and participants are in this congregation and the Gemeinde which preceded it. This fonds contains bulletins (1961-2018), annual reports (1957-2000), directories (1976-1998), constitutions (1958-[199-?]), schedule of services (1934-1981), congregational and Gemeinde meeting minutes (1923-2000), membership and family registers (1923-1998), congregational newsletters (1996-2000), Christian education documents (1931-1969), various Gemeinde committee records (1939-1967)and miscellaneous Gemeinde documents (1912-1973).

Notes

Custodial history

The majority of the material in this fonds were first brought to the Mennonite Heritage Centre on Dec. 4, 1994 by Peter D. Zacharias on a "permanent loan basis" to help Anna Ens in the writing of the history of the Conference of Mennonite in Manitoba entitled, In Search of Unity. The materials in volume 3448 and 3449 were obtained in July of 1987 and the church bulletins and annual reports were submitted to the Mennonite Heritage Centre at various intervals over the years.
