Historical note

The Fort Garry Mennonite Fellowship is a congregation that emerged as an initiative of members of the Winnipeg Bergthaler Mennonite Church (later known as Home Street Mennonite Church). It began services in 1966 in the Fort Garry area of Winnipeg and the group formally organized in 1967. It initially met in rented facilities. In 1969 the membership was 34. In 1976 the membership was 57. In 1984 it completed its own meeting place at 150 Bayridge Avenue. In 1990 the membership was 116 and in 2000 it was 170. The congregation strove to provide its own leadership and ministries from within their membership, which meant not hiring "outside" leadership. Some of the members that provided leadership were: Lawrence Klippenstein (1966-1968), Carl Heinrichs (1967-1968), Henry Epp (1969-1970, 1972-1973), Henry Loewen (1971, 1974-1979, 1982-1986), Adolf Ens (1980-1981, 1990), Winona Rempel (1983-1986), Bernie Wiebe (1984-1996), Ray Wahl (1991-1996), Pam Peters-Pries (1997-1998), Rob Nickel (1998- ). The congregation has been affiliated with Conference of Mennonites in Manitoba / Mennonite Church Manitoba, Conference of Mennonites in Canada / Mennonite Church Canada (1969-), and General Conference Mennonite Church (1971-1999).

This fonds consist of bulletins, registers, directories, worship schedules, minutes, correspondence, annual reports and other reports, covenants, statistics, brief congregational histories, and newsletters which pertain to the founding and development of the congregation.
