Poole Mennonite Church was founded near Milverton, Ontario in 1874. It began as the Mornington Amish Mennonite congregation. It met in private homes until 1886 when they built their own meeting house. In building this meeting house, a division occurred. The Old Order Amish continued to meet in private homes and the Amish Mennonite group began to meet in meeting houses. This congregation was affected by two further divisions in 1903 and 1959, each time a group wanting more change and another resisting change. The congregation has remained in this building until it was expanded in 1966. In 1900 the membership was 105. In 1950 it was 250. By 1985 it was 390 and 2001 it was 294. The congregation was a member of the Ontario Amish Mennonite Conference until 1963, then the Western Ontario Mennonite Conference until 1987, and thereafter the Mennonite Conference of Eastern Canada. The leaders of the congregation were: Joseph Gerber (1865-1893), Joseph Rupp (1873-1910), John Kuepfer (1873-1925), Christian Kuepfer (1879-1886) [went with the Old Order Amish in the division], Andrew Kuepfer (1879-1886) [went with the Old Order Amish in the division], Solomon Kuepfer (1879-1886) [went with the Old Order Amish in 1886], Nicholas Nafziger (1891-1903 [went with the Nafziger division in 1903], Peter Spenler (1891-1903) [went with the Nafziger division in 1903], Peter Boshart (1903-1927), Christian Schultz (1905-1952), Christian Lichty (1940-1959) [went with the conservative division in 1959], Moses Roth (1953-1959) [went with the conservative division in 1959], Amos Brunk (1940-1969), Herb Schulz (1955-1970), Henry Yantzi (1961-1971), Amsey Martin (1970-1982), Winston Martin (1983), Dave Brubacher (1983-1990), David Rogalsky (1990-1999), Reynold Kuepfer (2000), Paul Dyck (2001- ).
