The Wanner Mennonite Church was founded in 1837 in Preston, now part of Cambridge, Ontario. The Mennonites had settled in this area as immigrants from United States in 1800. They were looking for better opportunities and more freedoms after the war of independence from the United Kingdom. They initially met in private homes. They had their own meeting house in 1829. They built a bigger meeting house in 1837. In 1874 a group left which became the Mennonite Brethren in Christ. In 1900 there were 25 members. In 1927 there were 40 members. In 1938 they built a new meeting house. The membership was 63 in 1943 and 113 in 1960. In 1980 the membership was 149 and in 2000 it was 136. The leaders of the congregation were: Martin Baer (1808-ca.1845), John Baer (1838-1874), David Sherk (1838-1882), Absalom Snyder (1892-1936), Jacob Woolner (1898-), S. Kanagy (1932-1941), J. Witner (1939-1960), H. Groh (1946-1960), Merle Shantz (1949-1960), Howard Schmidt (1961-1971), Herbert Schultz (1973-1980), James Reimer (1981), Paul Martin (1982-1990), Eric Hiebert Rempel (1991-2000), Gerald Good (2001).
This fonds contains bulletins (1997-2009, 2011-2017), newsletters (1997-1999), and directories (2002, 2008). The records pertain to some of the activities of this Mennonite congregation since 1997.
