Historical note

The congregation was founded in Watrous, Saskatchewan in the 1930s when there were sufficient families to form a congregation. The congregation grew slowly from about 25 members to about 100 members in 1962. Since then it declined to 64 in 1975, 39 in 1989, and 23 in 2000. The leaders of the congregation were: Jacob Klassen (1934-1938), Abram Warkentin (1945-1963), Abram Regier (1956-1965), Peter Willms (1956-1967), Ruben Siemens (1968-1970), Eric Froese (1971-1974), Herb Kornelsen (1975), Dan Boehr (1976), James Mullet (1977-1984), Dave Peters (1985-1989), Henry Funk (1991), Ed Kornelsen (1990, 1992- ).

Scope and content note

The fonds contains bulletins (1968-2002), congregational meeting minutes (1987-2000), church council meeting minutes (1985-1993), programmes (1985), annual reports (1986-1999), financial records (1989), and a newsletter (1987). The records pertain to the development of the Mennonite congregation in Watrous, Saskatchewan and document some of the leaders and participants of the congregation.
