  Historical note

  The Committee on the Ministry was created in 1963 and changed its name to The Committee on Ministerial Leadership in 1983. Until 1986 it had no paid staff. In 1994 it became Leadership Commission. Staff include William Block Director of Ministerial Leadership (1986-1994), Associate Executive Secretary Ministerial Services (1994-1997), Ralph Leobold Director of Pastoral and Seminary Education (1992-1994), Associate Executive Secretary Ministerial education (1994-1997), and Dan Nightswander, Executive Secretary, Leadership Commission (1997-1999). Whatever the name, it focused on the transition to paid pastors from outside the congregation, and pastor-congregation relations.

  Scope and content note

  This sub series contains correspondence and desk calendars as well as information on the study reserve fund for the period of 1982-1987. It also contains the 1968-1982 minutes for the Committee on the Ministry and a file on a Conference on Ordination from 1957.
