Christian Investors in Education is a Christian charitable organization which officially began in the spring of 1965. Its formation grew out of a men's organization known as Mennonite Men which first met at the Bethel Mennonite Church (Winnipeg) in the fall of 1962. In 1963, when the majority of members of the group declined to accept a proposal from Mennonite Central Committee to sponsor a Mennonite man from Paraguay to come to Winnipeg to learn about Credit Unions, a second men's group was formed called "The Group of Nine". In 1965 this group changed the name to Christian Investors in Education (C.I.E.).
C.I.E. aimed to help people receive better education with the hope that they would use their new knowledge to help their community. Some of their projects included sponsoring Heinrich Wiens from Paraguay to learn about Credit Unions in Manitoba, sponsoring students from different countries to attend a Bible College, and giving bursaries to students at schools such as Westgate Mennonite Collegiate (Winnipeg) and Mennonite Collegiate Institute (Gretna). In 1970 Christian Investors in Education began one if its largest projects. They purchased a trading post for the northern Manitoba Aboriginal community of Pauingassi. In 1980 they sold it to 13 of it members for approximately $115 000.
This fonds contains minutes and reports, background information of projects, financial and legal documents, and correspondence. There also are membership lists and a 20th anniversary book.
