Historical note

Initially each committee or program of the Conference of Mennonites in Manitoba handled its own finances. Resources came from offerings, contributions and levies. In 1959 the Conference established a central treasury and a unified budget. Part-time staff did the bookkeeping and the conference treasurer served on a volunteer basis. When the CMM office moved to Winnipeg in 1968 Ernest Wiebe was hired as conference treasurer. During the 1970s and 1980s the Finance Committee was referred to as the Business Administration Office. The Finance Committee's main responsibilities were to monitor receipt and disbursements of funds, to prepare the annual budget, and to supervise financial affairs of the Conference.

On February 19, 2000 the Finance Committee was dissolved. A Financial Advisory transition team was formed to help the Executive Director learn the fiscal operation of CMM and to suggest financial policy to the Board of Directors.
